What this place is

A campground with a district behind it

The Indiana South District of The Wesleyan Church owns and runs the grounds. Churches across the district use them, and so can groups from outside it.

The grounds sit outside Orleans, in Orange County. Cornfields on two sides, a road that loops through the middle, cabins and camper sites under mature trees, and the buildings that make a camp work — a tabernacle, a chapel, a dining hall and dorms.

The district we belong to describes itself as“a movement of The Wesleyan Church dedicated to supporting local congregations and reaching the unsaved across Southern Indiana.” These grounds are where a lot of that happens in person: three camps every summer, and other bookings around them.

Three camps run here each summer

One for children, one for teenagers, and one open to every age. They share the grounds and the buildings; the week itself is built around who it is for.

Kids' Bible Camp

KBC

We shorten it to KBC, and it is the week the grounds fill with our youngest campers. They arrive by church group, get a camp shirt, and spend the week in the chapel, the dining hall and the field.

Mornings and evenings are services in the chapel — the one with the wooden vault, the pews and the flags of the nations across the front. In between it is craft tables, ball games on the lawn, inflatables, and the kind of water games that need a fire hose and a length of sheeting down the hill.

rEVOLution Youth Camp

Teen camp

“rEVOLution is all about pouring into the next generation. Throughout the week we will have service twice a day, with amazing worship and a special message from a speaker. Add to that some team-building activities, games, and battles — and you're in for a blast!”

The stage is built out and themed for the year, the room is dark, and the band plays to a standing crowd. In the photographs from the week, campers gather and pray at the front of the room after the message.

The battles are team games run at camp scale. Several of them involve water, on the field between the dorms.

Family Camp

All ages

Family Camp runs for a week in July and is the one camp open to every age. It is also the week both kinds of lodging fill at once — camper sites along the loop and rooms in the dorms.

Alongside the services there is a Kids' Fun Run and the Family Camp 5K, which runs on the camp road past the cornfields. Services are streamed to our YouTube channel, where past years' are still up.

What is actually here

The buildings sit close together, with the field, the sand court and the camp road around them.

The tabernacle

The big open-framed auditorium. Rows of chairs on a concrete floor under a steel roof, a stage at one end and screens either side. It is the largest room on the grounds.

The chapel

Smaller, older and wood-lined, with pews, a cross at the front and the flags of the nations along the walls. This is where the kids’ services happen.

The dining hall

Trays and long tables. Meals run through the week of every camp.

Dorm rooms

Where campers and guests sleep. Some rooms are on the ground floor, some have their own shower, and some have internet access.

Camper and RV sites

Sites under the trees, along the wooded loop that runs through the middle of the grounds.

The grounds

A sand volleyball court, open field for ball games, a playground, and a camp road that runs out past the cornfields — the same loop the 5K uses.

Online booking coming soon

Camper-site reservations are moving online, but that isn't ready yet. In the meantime, call or email the district office with your arrival and departure dates and the details of your rig, and they'll get you a site.

There is commercial coin-op laundry on the grounds.

Using the grounds

Booking the grounds

Outside the three camp weeks the grounds can be booked for group events and weddings.

If you want to use the grounds for something of your own, the Campground Interest Form is where to start. Tell us what you have in mind and we will let you know whether the site can accommodate it.

Weddings happen here too.

One rule before you ask: these grounds are owned by The Wesleyan Church, and we do not permit alcohol or tobacco anywhere on them. That applies to the whole site, not only to events.

McKenzie and Jared Rea on their wedding day at the campground

Getting married at Orleans campgrounds was perfect for Jared and me. Not only was it the place we met - but it will always hold even more special memories for us. We loved our day and hope many other couples get to experience getting married at such a special place.

The camp board

The grounds are owned by the Indiana South District of The Wesleyan Church and overseen by a camp board.

Camp Board Chairman

Rev. Wes Jones

Wes chairs the camp board and is lead pastor at Flintwood Wesleyan Church. He has lived and served in southern Indiana for most of his life, and what he wants the grounds to be is a place where campers grow in faith and in connection with each other.

What we believe

The faith the camp runs on

Heritage Camp belongs to The Wesleyan Church, and holds what the church holds.

We believe

In God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In the virgin birth. That Jesus died to save us from our sins. That God wants believers to live a holy consistent life. That the Bible is reliable and was written without mistakes. That God will judge us all for our actions on earth. That after death, we will either go to heaven or hell. That God loves you and so do we!

The fuller statement

We believe in God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

We believe that Jesus Christ the Son suffered in our place on the cross, that He died but rose again, and that He now sits at the Father’s right hand until He returns to judge every person on the last day.

We believe in the Holy Scriptures as the inspired Word of God.

We believe that by the grace of God, every person has the ability and responsibility to choose between right and wrong and that those who repent of their sin and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ are justified by faith.

We believe that God not only counts the believer as righteous, but that He makes such persons righteous, freeing them from sin’s dominion at conversion, purifying their hearts by faith, perfecting them in love at entire sanctification, and providing for their growth in grace at every stage of spiritual life, enabling them through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit to live victorious lives.
